Shoaib came to Somerset’s attention when playing for Berkshire U18s.
He played in two Somerset 2nd XI championship matches in September 2022 taking nine wickets with a best of 5 for 44 against Warwickshire.
Shoaib has signed a contract until the end of the 2025 season.
2023 saw Shoaib making his Somerset debut in all three formats, playing in a total of 18 matches. He made his T20 debut at Bristol in the Vitality Blast victory and impressed with 3 wickets. His highlight in First-Class cricket was a double wicket maiden against Hampshire in which he removed James Vince.
Shoaib Bashir’s 2024 season was remarkable. After debuting for England in February against India, he became the third leading Test wicket-taker that year, bowling more overs than any other bowler.
In July, he became the youngest England spinner to take a five-wicket haul at home, achieving figures of 5/41 against the West Indies.
