Previewing the match, Somerset Head Coach, Jason Kerr said: “Playing at home reminds us of how fortunate we are to have such incredible support. There’s nothing better than playing in front of a packed house in Taunton.

“We expect a difficult tie because all the sides in the group are strong. It’s important that we concentrate on what we do really well, and Wednesday night was a great example of what we can do when we execute our skills. If we can do that regularly throughout this competition then sides will struggle to stay with us.”

Today’s classic match sees us go back to 2005 and a game at Taunton which saw a comprehensive win for Somerset by 89 runs.

Somerset Captain, Graeme Smith won the toss and elected to bat first.

Smith (33) and opening partner Matt Wood (23) shared 56 for the first wicket before Keith Parsons (57 not out from 28 balls) and James Hildreth (71 from 37) ensured that Somerset posted a total of 212 fro three from their 20 overs.

After dominating with the bat, Somerset then did the same with the ball as the visitors were dismissed for 123 from just 17.4 overs.

Ian Blackwell was the pick of the home attack, claiming four for 26.

2005 was an outstanding year for Somerset in T20 cricket, with the Club going on to lift the trophy at the Oval.
