THE OPPOSITION

GLAMORGAN

Captain: Kiran Carlson
Overseas player: Colin Ingram (South Africa)

2022 finish: Fourth (Group B)
2022 leading run scorer: Colin Ingram (342)
2022 leading wicket taker: Kiran Carlson (9)

Key player: Colin Ingram – The South African has been the mainstay of Glamorgan’s white-ball batting for a number of seasons now. Ingram was Glamorgan’s top runscorer in the 50-over competition last year and, after averaging 47 in the recently-concluded Vitality Blast, will again be relied upon to pace Glamorgan’s batting.

Young player to watch: Tom Bevan – Scored an imperious 134 runs off 103 balls in the win over Hampshire last year. More of the same would be very helpful if the ex-Millfield School product is given his chance again. Last season 2nd XI player of the year and John Derrick young Player of the Year.

TEAM NEWS

Somerset will be without Alfie Ogborne (shin).

A starting XI will be picked from the following squad: Sean Dickson, Andy Umeed, George Thomas, Lewis Goldsworthy, James Rew, George Bartlett, Danny Lamb, Josh Davey, Kasey Aldridge, Josh Thomas, Fin Hill, Ned Leonard, Jack Brooks, Shoaib Bashir and JT Langridge.

VIEW FROM THE DRESSING ROOM

Ahead of the game SCCC Metro Bank One Day Cup Head Coach, Paul Tweddle said: “I was delighted by the spirit that the boys showed in the build up to the Durham game and by how they went about things on the day. We needed to bounce back after the Gloucestershire game and they did exactly that. We’ve played some really good cricket at stages during this competition and we knew that a good all round performance was coming. To come back from the disappointment of Bristol in the way that they did was really exciting for this group.

“We’ve loved playing at the Cooper Associates County Ground this summer and the support has been amazing. We’ve had some good games at home and we’re looking to put in a good performance and build on the momentum from Durham.

“Glamorgan are a good side and they’re going pretty well at the moment. They’ve got some very dangerous players and a good deal of experience in the side, but we will be looking to control what we can. We will be focusing on the things that we’ve done well in the competition so far and looking to finish the competition strongly.”

CLASSIC MATCH

It’s back to 2018 for the classic List A match between these two sides. It was a game that Somerset won by 83 runs courtesy of a masterclass from James Hildreth.

Glamorgan won the toss and elected to field.

Somerset slipped to 49 for two but 56 from Peter Trego got the home side back on track. However, it was Hildreth who was the star of the show. In a sublime display of batting he made a List A career high of 159 from just 125 balls in an innings that included 13 fours and eight sixes.

To Abell, who came in at number six, added a rapid 40 from 25 balls as Somerset posted a total of 372 for seven from their 50 overs.

Colin Ingram was the mainstay of the visiting batters, making 85 from 70 balls, but he receieved little support as Glamorgan were dismissed for 289 with four overs remaining.

FAMILY DAY

Our annual Family Fun Day returns tomorrow and this year it will be bigger and better than ever.

Throughout the day there will be children’s entertainment for Members and ticket holders within our safe and secure Jurassic Fibre Fan Village, which will be tailored to ensure that children and families have a brilliant day out!

ANNUAL CHURCH SERVICE

HER GAME TOO

We are pleased to be able to announce that this is our annual #HERGAMETOO fixture.

#HerGameToo wants to spread their message of hope and equality. They believe that a single action can make a difference in the community, and that collective action can greatly impact the world.

They believe that discrimination towards women and girls in sport is not limited to just football – so they have expanded their campaign across other sports where they can support, encourage and inspire women in the game.

In recent years, we’ve seen progress in the number of girl’s and women’s cricket teams but we know that barriers still remain. We will continue to champion female participation until girls and women are accepted and respected equally in sport.

HER GAME TOO
