Thank you, Polly!
Following the completion of Somerset’s latest match at Essex, First XI Scorer, Polly Rhodes retired from her duties after a long association with the Club.
Polly first became involved with Somerset when she scored for the Under 17s in 2006 and two years later she stepped up to become the Second XI scorer.
When Gerry Stickley retired at the end of the 2018 season Polly took over the role of First XI scorer and has carried on ever since.
Polly was keen on cricket when at school but soon discovered that she was better with the pen than the bat, so took up scoring.
When her son played cricket she scored for his Colts XI and from there she was encouraged to become a qualified scorer, learning from none other than Bill Frindall, the legendary Test Match Special scorer.
When Polly scored for Somerset against Worcestershire at New Road alongside Sue Drinkwater in May 2029 it was the first time that two women had officiated in a Championship match.
Before scoring, Polly taught home economics and needlework, and two years ago she turned her hand to making a new Somerset CCC flag, which flies from the Andy Caddick Pavilion on matchdays.
During her time as Somerset First XI scorer Polly has also scored for England at international level as well as for WEPL Premier League sides Bath and Taunton St Andrews.
Everyone associated with Somerset CCC would like to wish Polly a long and happy retirement.
