SCCC and King’s Extend Partnership

Somerset County Cricket Club are pleased to be able to announce that our long-standing partnership with King’s College and King’s College Prep is set to continue.

The renewal of this mutually beneficial relationship will maintain the excellent links that Somerset CCC already has with King’s, which is one of the region’s most highly regarded education providers. Both King’s and SCCC have a long tradition of sporting excellence on the field, and the partnership has provided countless opportunities for young cricketers to develop their skills and love of the game.

A designated Centre of Cricketing Excellence, King’s College has produced a number of Somerset players over the years including Jos Buttler, Eddie Byrom, Alex Barrow, Craig Meschede, James Regan, Nathan Gilchrist, Tom Banton, Will Smeed, James Rew George Thomas, Sonny Baker and Josh Thomas.

Both players have been very much to the fore this season and scored centuries in the county championship victory over Kent. Tom Banton and Will Smeed also led the way when Somerset beat Essex in the opening Vitality Blast match of the 2024 campaign.

Regarding the partnership renewal, Somerset CCC Commercial Director, Caroline Herbert said: “We are delighted that our relationship with King’s College is set to continue. We both have a long and successful tradition of playing an important role in the development of local young sportsmen and women, both on and off the field.

“The ever-growing list of First XI players who have attended King’s College speaks for itself and should be a real inspiration for the young people of the region.”

The continuing partnership with SCCC is a testament to strength of the relationship between King’s and the home of Somerset cricket, and one that we are delighted to continue.
