Somerset Women Heading to Pretoria for Pre-Season
Somerset Women’s pre-season tour to Sharjah has been cancelled.
The squad was due to fly out to the UAE this month, but with the ongoing situation in the Middle East the decision has been taken to find an alternative destination.
The team will now travel to Pretoria in South Africa from the 18th to the 27th of March.
Somerset Head Coach, Erin Osborne said: “As with the men’s decision to alter their plans this winter, the safety of our players and staff is paramount. Whilst the trip to Sharjah was a key element of our pre-season plans, there are more important things than sport.
“The staff at the Club did a remarkable job in the last week to arrange for us to go to Pretoria instead and I would like to thank everyone who has made this trip possible. It represents a great opportunity for the players to get some time in the middle. We will also be looking to play some competitive cricket whilst we are out there.
“We are extremely fortunate to be in this position, and we must be mindful that people across the world are being affected by what is currently happening in the Middle East and our thoughts are with them.”
