Somerset sign Amanda-Jade Wellington

Somerset County Cricket Club are delighted to be able to announce the signing of Amanda-Jade Wellington for the 2025 season.

The 27-year-old is one of the most sought-after players in franchise cricket and will join the Club from April 11th until September 22nd.

The leg-spinning allrounder made a huge impression both on and off the field for Western Storm in 2024, taking 27 wickets and scoring over 400 runs across the Rachael Heyhoe-Flint Trophy and Charlotte Edwards Cup.

Amanda-Jade has represented Australia on 23 occasions across the three formats of the game, taking 30 wickets with a best of four for 16 in an IT20 against New Zealand.

In total she has featured in 265 T20 matches, claiming 312 wickets at an average of 17.92 with a best of five for eight. Her List A stats are equally impressive with her 117 matches yielding 174 wickets at an average of 24.78 with a best of six for 25.

During her career she has also represented Adelaide Strikers in the Big Bash, Southern Brave, Manchester Originals and Oval Invincibles in The Hundred, and Southern Vipers in the KSL.

After signing for Somerset, she said: “I really enjoyed my time in the region last year and I can’t wait to be a part of Somerset’s first ever professional women’s team. I know a lot of the players and staff from my time with Storm and there is a genuine bond within the group.

“We have the chance to put down a marker and set the standards for Somerset Women this summer. That’s a very special responsibility and I can’t wait to get started.”

Somerset Women Head Coach, Trevor Griffin is pleased to be working with Amanda-Jade again this year.

“What can I say about Wello?  She’s competitive, positive, determined and a real fighter who never gives up. She’ll be an incredible asset to the squad.

“I’ve had the pleasure of working with her previously and have seen at first-hand how she uses her experience of playing at the top level around the world to support and encourage her fellow players.  A lot of our squad are at the beginning of their career and having Wello next to them in the dressing room and on the pitch is a huge asset, both to them individually and to the squad as a whole.

“She’s a real fans’ favourite who is sure to get everyone behind her and help us make this first season a real success. I’m really looking forward to linking up with her again.”

Somerset CCC Director of Cricket, Andy Hurry added: “Amanda-Jade is a player of proven ability. We saw her quality and impact last summer and we are delighted to be welcoming her back to an environment she enjoys and knows so well.

“Alongside her playing ability, the knowledge and experience that she has will be incredibly beneficial to the group as a whole.”
