Meet the Academy: Megan Driskel

Born: Taunton April 11th 2011.

Right-handed batter and right-arm bowler.

All-rounder Megan hails from Broadway and Horton and began her cricketing journey with her local club.

“I started playing cricket when I went along to All Stars at Broadway and Horton and it just progressed from there,” she explained. “I then moved Taunton Deane and started to play for the Somerset Under 11s when I was eight years old and then two years ago I was 13 and playing for the Under 15s.”

Unfortunately, Megan broke her femur in 2025 and didn’t get much playing time last summer.

“I’m seven months into my recovery journey and it’s going pretty well and I get tested regularly to see where I’m at.”

Megan enjoyed a successful 2024, as she explained: “In 2024 I got a 100 for Taunton Deane Women in a match against Bovey Tracey. I scored 131 which was a dream. To get a century was incredible. I’d had several 80s or 90s but then struggled, but now I’ve got a hundred I want to get some more!

“There’s a great women’s section at Taunton Deane and now it’s grown so much that they’ve got a third team, which is great for women’s cricket.

“Being part of the Academy is great because you get so many more opportunities and I am really enjoying it. With my injury I’ve had brilliant support. Cricket is my main sport and I love it so much. I just want to spend as much time doing it as possible.

“I go to Taunton School, where the set up is really good ,so as well as the Academy sessions I also have more sessions at school.”

Looking ahead to the coming season Megan said: “I just want to get back to playing regularly.”

Regarding her long-term future Megan said: “Everyone’s dream is to play for England, starting hopefully with the Under 19s. Then in five years’ time I’d be looking to play as much cricket as possible, franchise, the WBBL and that sort of stuff and hopefully have a professional contract for Somerset. That’s the hope!”
