Liv Signs Somerset Extension

Somerset spinner, Olivia Barnes has signed a new contract extension.

The 19-year-old’s current deal was due to expire this winter, but the Club have moved to secure her services until at least the end of the 2028 campaign.

‘Liv’ made 14 appearances for Somerset across the formats last summer claiming nine wickets with a best of three for 12 against The Blaze in the Vitality Blast at the Cooper Associates County Ground. Her performances saw her named Somerset’s Young Player of the Year in 2025.

The left-armer is a product of the Kent Pathway and made her debut for the County in 2022.

She captained the Kent Under 18s and was a member of the South East Stars Academy in 2022 and 2023 and was a part of the Sunrisers Academy in 2024. She was also named in the Essex Academy in the winter of 2024.

After signing her new deal, Liv said: “It’s pretty insane to think that little 19-year-old me has got a new contract and that the Club have put full faith in me for another two years. It’s really inspiring and makes me want to really work hard for them and not let them down. I didn’t really know what to expect last year but you could tell that the Members and supporters had our backs.

“Everyone around here loves cricket. That’s all I hear. I love how much the fans love cricket and they’re so into it and just love talking about it. Taunton is definitely home for me, and the men have made us feel so welcome.

“I just want to inspire the next generation of girls, and I want to help the team win some silverware. I love playing with this group. I’m literally on the field with 10 of my best friends each week. Travelling around the country and playing cricket is definitely a dream come true.”

Somerset Head Coach, Erin Osborne said: “Liv is an exciting young spinner who has enjoyed a solid pre‑season, gaining valuable opportunities to develop her skillset both at home and during time abroad in Sri Lanka and South Africa. Her performances last year earned her the Young Player of the Year award, and we’re looking forward to playing a part in her continued development over the next few years.”

Somerset CCC Director of Talent & Women’s Performance, Matt Drakeley added: “Liv joined us at the start of last season and quickly went on to play an important role within the squad. She delivered some key spells with the ball and also changed games in the field, which says a lot about the impact she can have. We believe she is going to play a big part in our bowling group going forward, and we are really pleased to see her continue her journey with Somerset.”
