Katie Commits to Somerset
Somerset County Cricket Club is delighted to announce that Katie Jones has signed a two-year contract extension.
The 20-year-old wicket keeper, who is a product of the Gloucestershire Pathway system, made her Gloucestershire debut in 2021 and was named in the Western Storm Academy the following year.
Her Storm debut came in 2023, and she went on to feature in 13 matches for the team.
She has represented England Under 19s on eight occasions, captaining the side in IT20 cricket and making a half century on her ODI debut against Australia in Galle.
After committing her future to Somerset, Katie said: “I’m over the moon. Last year was quite difficult for me personally, but to know that the Club are backing me is great news. The way we’re playing at the moment is great and it’s so good to be a part of that.
“Taunton is one of the best places to play cricket and we’ve got one of the best changing rooms. We’re so lucky that this is our job and we need to give everything that we have to make sure that we make the most of this opportunity.
“It’s exciting to see what the future holds, and I’m looking forward to dedicating my future to Somerset. It would be great to bring a trophy back home to Taunton and I’m just going to keep giving 100% to the group and see where that takes me.”
Somerset Head Coach, Erin Osborne said: “Katie has shown a great deal of determination and dedication to get back into the First XI and it’s great to have her back out on the field doing what she does best.
“The impact she had on her return was instantaneous and she is an important member of the group both on and off the field.”
Somerset CCC Director of Talent & Women’s Performance, Matt Drakeley added: “Katie has been excellent with the gloves since returning to the side earlier this summer, and her innings at Taunton Vale against Essex also showed the value she can bring with the bat.
“She is an important member of the group, and we are delighted to have secured her through to 2028 as we look forward to her continued impact across both T20 and 50-over cricket.”
