Contract extension for Emma
Somerset County Cricket Club is pleased to be able to reveal that Emma Corney has signed a contract extension.
The 22-year-old top-order batter, whose original contract was due to expire at the end of this season, has extended until at least the end of the 2027 campaign.
Her 2025 season was curtailed by a serious knee injury, but she featured in eight Metro Bank One Day Cup matches, scoring 208 runs with a best of 61 in Somerset’s first ever match as a professional side against Surrey. She also appeared in three Vitality Blast matches for the Club.
Emma was selected for the Western Storm Regional Development Centre in 2018 and went on to make her First XI debut in the Rachael Heyhoe-Flint Trophy in 2020.
She was part of the Western Storm Academy in 2021 and signed her first professional contract ahead of the 2023 season. During that year she was Storm’s second highest run scorer in the Rachael Heyhoe-Flint Trophy, making 296 runs.
A product of the Devon Pathway, Emma featured in 29 List A matches for Storm, scoring 555 runs with a best of 69. She also represented the team in nine T20 fixtures, scoring 172 runs with a best of 46.
After extending her stay with Somerset, Emma said: “I’m really excited to have committed my future to Somerset. It’s so good to know that the Club value me and have shown their commitment to me as well. I’m still recovering from knee surgery, so having the security of knowing that they see me as part of the team in the long term is so important. To know that they back me to get back on the pitch gives me a real boost and makes me want to play here even more. I just want to get back out there and repay the faith that they’ve shown in me.
“I feel like we’ve grown as a group and in that time, we’ve set our professional standards, and I think we’ve built something that is more than just a team of 11 cricketers going on a field and playing cricket. Signing this contract extension is definitely something to be proud of and I’m really looking forward to the summer.”
Somerset Head Coach, Erin Osborne said: “Emma fully deserves this contract extension. She’s approached her knee rehab with incredible commitment and has been outstanding around the group throughout. Her quality as a batter is clear and we are pleased she’s chosen to recommit to Somerset County Cricket Club.”
Somerset CCC Director of Talent & Women’s Performance, Matt Drakeley added: “Emma adds real value to our batting group, and it has been great to see the way she has approached her rehab after injury. As a local player with such a strong connection to Somerset and the South West, she is someone we are really pleased to retain, and we are all looking forward to seeing her back in 2026.”
