Stalemate despite TKC Brilliance

MATCH CENTRE/SCORECARD

A thirteenth First Class century from Tom Kohler-Cadmore helped to ensure that this Rothesay County Championship Division One clash between Somerset and Nottinghamshire ended in a draw.

The 30-year-old made 147 not out, his highest red ball score in a Somerset shirt, as it ended honours even at the Cooper Associates County Ground.

It was a superb innings that featured the explosive dynamism that you expect from Kohler-Cadmore but it was so much more than that. As well as the brutish power there was grace, elegance, skill, patience and intelligence. It made for compelling viewing and means that he has now scored 294 runs in four First Class innings this season.

Somerset resumed on their overnight total of four for one, but unfortunately for the home side that soon became 28 for three.

Sean Dickson (6) fell lbw to a ball from Liam Patterson-White that straightened and struck him on the back leg and then Tom Lammonby pulled the same bowler to the only fielder on the leg side to depart for seven.

Kohler-Cadmore then looked to attack the bowlers and he dispatched Farhan Ahmed onto the Thatchers Terrace for a big maximum and repeated the feat off the same bowler two overs later to bring up the Somerset 50.

The Somerset opener wasn’t finished there and he deposited Ahmed into the St James Street car park via the roof of the media centre for the biggest six yet to bring up the half century stand with James Rew.

Kohler-Cadmore reached his personal half century from 60 balls and by lunch Somerset had moved to 112 for three.

After the break, the Somerset fourth wicket partnership had reached 96 when Rew, on 43, top edged a sweep shot to Joe Clarke at short fine leg to give Patterson-White his fourth at 124 for four.

The Somerset 150 arrived in the 44th over and Kohler-Cadmore brought up the 50 partnership for the fifth wicket with Tom Abell by beautifully reverse sweeping Patterson-White to move within two runs of his century.

The former Yorkshire and Worcestershire batter dispatched Farhan Ahmed to the leg side boundary to go to three figures from 138 balls.

By the time the tea interval had arrived, the hosts had reached 197 for four, a lead of 67.

After the interval, the 200 arrived after 64 overs and when Kohler-Cadmore moved to 131 not out he surpassed his previous highest score for Somerset.

The 100 partnership between the two Tom’s then arrived from 212 deliveries.

With the scoreboard showing 238 for four, the players shook hands at ten to four, but not before we witnessed the novelty value of Notts ‘Keeper Ishan Kishan bowling the final over of the day.

It was an attritional four days, but it is a match which will be remembered for an innings of genuine quality from Tom Kohler-Cadmore.

Somerset take 11 points from the match whilst the visitors claimed 12.
