Somerset come out on top at Exmouth

Somerset came overcame Devon by 22 runs in this National County T20 fixture at Exmouth CC.

Fin Hill made a half century and JT Langridge claimed two wickets as Somerset came out on top.

After winning the toss and electing to bat, Somerset openers Josh Thomas and Will Smeed shared a stand of 21 before the latter top edged Josh Nott to Harry Passenger to go for 15.

Thomas and Fin Hill added 22 for the second wicket but Thomas was caught by Callum Harvey in the deep off the bowling of James Theedom for six.

By the end of the powerplay, Somerset had reached 50 for two.

Hill and Kian Roberts brought up their 50 partnership from 39 balls, but Roberts departed for the addition of just one further run to the total when he was trapped lbw by Matt Jeacock for 21 at 94 for three after 12 overs.

Hill top scored with 55 from 38 balls, but was the next to fall at 112 for four.

That became 128 for five when Lewis Goldsworthy was stumped by Adam Small off the bowling of Harvey for 15 in the 17th over.

Three wickets then fell for just 19 runs but Zack Vukusic (19 from five balls) and Ben Church (12 from five) ensured that Somerset posted a total of 173 for eight.

Jeacock was the pick of the bowlers, claiming four for 30.

In reply, Devon slipped to seven for two as JT Langridge trapped Louis Morison lbw and Alfie Ogborne bowled Brendon Parr.

Small and Lawrence Walker shared a third wicket partnership of 55 before the former was bowled by Thomas for 35 at 62 for three in the 11th over.

Walker fell to Roberts for 31, courtesy of a catch by Hill with the score on 77 in the 14th over, but Sam Read and Harvey took the total to 142, their stand was worth 65 when Read (31) was bowled by Langridge in the final over.

Harvey finished unbeaten on 39, but it was to no avail as Somerset came out on top.
