Rain the only winner on day three
The only real winner on the third day of this Rothesay County Championship clash between Somerset and Yorkshire at the Cooper Associates County Ground was the weather.
Despite heavy overnight rain, play began on time but only 8.3 overs and 31 minutes of play were possible in the morning session.
However, during that time Somerset added 50 runs to the overnight total to advance to 441 for six.
The home side’s positive approach saw Ben Green (33*) and Kasey Aldridge (42*) take their partnership past the 50-mark as Green in particular to the attack to the Yorkshire bowlers.
Unfortunately, rain began to fall again and no further play was possible until 3:20. Indeed, the only item of interest to report during that time was the Somerset declaration.
Only two overs were possible before further precipitation sent the players scurrying from the field once more with the visitors having reached 17 without loss.
Play was finally abandoned at 4:11pm.
