Honours even on day four

MATCH CENTRE/SCORECARD

Somerset and Nottinghamshire had to settle for a draw on the final day of this Rothesay County Championship Division One match at the Cooper Associates County Ground.

The home side resumed on 214 for one and it didn’t take long for Tom Kohler Cadmore to reach his fourth First Class century for Somerset. The opener smashed Dillon Pennington to the boundary to reach the milestone from 168 balls. That boundary also meant that his partnership with James Rew became the most productive second wicket stand against Nottinghamshire, beating the previous best of 216 between Arul Suppiah and Nick Compton at Trent Bridge in 2012.

He had reached 104 when he miscued Liam Patterson-White high into the Taunton sky allowing the bowler to position himself and take the catch at 231 for two. The partnership was worth 224.

That soon became 242 for three when Rew was trapped lbw by Patterson-White for a superb 122.

Tom Abell and Tom Lammonby took up the mantle and their 50 partnership came from 61 deliveries as the pair looked to accelerate the run rate.

The 300 arrived in the 76th over, and the score had advanced to 322 when Abell departed for 42, caught at long off to give Patterson-White his third wicket. The partnership with Lammonby had reached 80.

Lammonby’s 50 arrived from 70 balls and he deposited Patterson-White into the lower tier of the Colin Atkinson Pavilion to bring up the Somerset 350 in the 83rd over.

The Notts spinner gain his revenge though when the Somerset left-hander looked to go big again off the first ball of the last over before lunch and was caught at deep mid wicket for 69 at 370 for five.

No declaration was forthcoming at lunch and so it was that Lewis Goldsworthy and Craig Overton made their way to the middle for the afternoon session.

The pair added a rapid 37, taking Somerset’s lead to 416, and the declaration came with the scoreboard displaying 407 for five.

Try as they might, the Somerset bowlers couldn’t make any inroads despite Alfie Ogborne beating the bat on a number of occasions and Ben Slater went to 50 from 74 balls before the visitors reached tea on 86 without loss.

After the break, four runs had been added to the total when Slater (60) flicked a short one from Alfie Ogborne to a tumbling Kohler Cadmore at backward square leg.

Jack Leach then trapped Hameed lbw for 27 without further addition to the total.

Leach struck again at 104 for three when he bowled Joe Clarke for 12.

The players eventually shook hands with the score on 140 for three as both sides settled for 13 points.
