Welcome to the Somerset Family: 2024 debutants

 

2024 saw several players join the illustrious list of those who have represented Somerset County Cricket Club.

Here we take a look at those cricketers who joined the Somerset family this summer.

Riley Meredith

The Australian seamer featured in 12 Vitality Blast matches for the Club this season, claiming 14 wickets with a best of four for 12 at an average of 22.78. He also played in three Metro Bank One Day Cup matches in which he took six wickets with a best of four for 27 at an average of 21.33.

His performances we of such a high standard that he earned a recall to the Australian national side.

Somerset supporters will be pleased to know that Riley will be returning to the Club in 2025.

Migael Pretorius

The South African all rounder represented Somerset in eight Vitality County Championship games in 2024 and he impressed with both bat and ball. During those fixtures he amassed 324 runs at an average of 32.40 with a best of 95 not out. He also took 23 wickets with a best of five for 104.

Migael also played in one Vitality Blast match in which he finished with figures of two for 22 from three overs.

Archie Vaughan

Archie joined the Somerset Academy in 2020 and made his Second XI debut two year’s later. His First XI bow came on July 26th against Kent in the Metro Bank One Day Cup. He featured in seven matches in the competition, scoring 72 runs at an average 36 and taking three wickets at an average of 21.

The 18-year-old also played in four Vitality County Championship matches in which he claimed 15 wickets at an average of 20.13 with a best of six for 102. In these matches he accumulated 236 runs at an average of 33.71 with a best of 68

Jake Ball

Jake joined the Club from Nottinghamshire ahead of the 2024 season and he represented Somerset in both the Vitality County Championship and the Vitality Blast this summer.

In total he claimed 30 wickets across the formats.

Brett Randell

The New Zealand international featured in two Vitality County Championship matches for the Club at the tail end of the season, taking three for 71 against Lancashire.

Joe Heywood

England Under 19 International Joe has been a part of the Somerset Pathway since 2021. The right-arm seamer made his debut for Somerset Second XI last summer and made his maiden appearance for the First XI in this year’s Metro Bank One Day Cup clash against Hampshire at Utilita Bowl.

Charlie Cassell

The Scotland International joined Somerset during this season’s Metro Bank One Day Cup and featured in three games during the competition, helping Somerset to victory over Durham and Lancashire.
