Two more years for Lewis
Somerset County Cricket Club is pleased to be able to announce that all-rounder, Lewis Goldsworthy has signed a contract extension until at least the end of the 2028 season.
The 25-year-old’s current deal was due to expire this winter, but he has now committed his future to the Club.
Lewis joined the Somerset Academy in 2016 after working his way through the Cornwall Pathway and made his Somerset Second XI debut the following year.
The former England Under 19 international made his First XI debut in the Vitality Blast clash with Glamorgan at Sophia Gardens in 2020.
His First Class and List ‘A’ debuts came the following year when he was also named Somerset Young Player of the Season.
Since making his debut, Lewis has featured in 132 matches for Somerset across the three formats, scoring more than 3500 runs and claiming 75 wickets. He was named Somerset’s Metro Bank One Day Cup Captain earlier this month.
After putting pen to paper, Lewis said: “This means a lot. Growing up in Cornwall, I was always coming to Taunton to watch Somerset so to be able to do something that I love for a living is really special.
“Playing for Somerset is all I’ve ever wanted to do. The Members and supporters here are so special, and we play at such an iconic ground, so this means an awful lot to me and I’m just happy that I’m able to keep on doing it.
“Over the next two years I want to keep helping the Club push for that County Championship title and help us to keep doing what we’re doing in white ball cricket.”
Somerset CCC Director of Cricket, Andy Hurry added: “Lewis is an impactful all-round cricketer who is a fiercely competitive.
“His ability to influence matches across the formats with both bat and ball, as well as in the field, makes him a key member of the squad. He is someone who is constantly looking to improve, and we believe he will play an important role over the next few years as we seek to achieve our on-field goals.”
