Trent Keep joins the Coaching Team
Former Australia A Coach, Trent Keep will be joining the coaching staff at Somerset County Cricket Club in mid-May through to the end of June.
At the start of his coaching journey Trent led Gold Coast to Premier cricket titles in Queensland before being employed to set up programs in North Queensland and develop the elite young talent in the region.
As Talent Manager and Head Coach for Cricket Northern Territory, Trent was also named as Assistant Coach of the Australian VI cricket team.
In 2025 Trent was appointed as Assistant Coach to Tim Paine for the Australia A team for the series versus Sri Lanka.
Regarding Trent’s appointment, Somerset Head Coach, Jason Kerr said: “With the departure of Shane Burger, who was an outstanding coach, we considered all options and whilst we were going through that process, we came across Trent and he was a really exciting individual who is on a coaching journey himself. Trent will add real value to our environment and bring incredible energy and it’s a great opportunity for him to get to know us and vice versa. We’re excited to have him within the environment and we’ll be keeping him busy across both our men’s teams and the Pathway. This will give us the opportunity to really get a feel for him as a coach in our environment.
“My philosophy is that if you’re a really good coach, you can coach all facets. He’ll be spending time with the First XI as one of our assistants and he’ll be spending time with the Second Team as well. We’re also going to give him some one-to-one coaching capacity, so he’ll be working with our seamers and batters, as well as aiding Paul Tweddle with the fielding. We feel that he is an individual who’s going to add value to our environment and hopefully we can help him develop as well.”
Following his appointment, Trent said: “I’m thrilled to be joining Somerset. Obviously, they’re the defending Vitality Blast champions and I’m looking forward to getting straight into learning from Jason, the players and the wider club. Somerset is an amazing club and I’m excited to be part of it.”
