Thomas Rew signs short-term contract

Somerset Academy wicketkeeper/batter, Thomas Rew has signed a short-term contract.

This will make him available to be considered for selection across all cricket for Somerset CCC from May 21st to June 26th.

The 17-year-old King’s College student, who worked his way onto the Somerset Academy via the Somerset Emerging Player Programme, made his Second XI debut for the Club in 2023 and has gone on to represent England Under 19s.

Thomas was recently named in the PCC Select XI for their match against Zimbabwe where he scored an unbeaten century in the second innings.

After signing his contract, Thomas said: “I’m really excited about signing this contract with Somerset and look forward to being around the squad.

“It will be a great opportunity to learn from the best players at the Club, and if the opportunity presents itself to play, I will aim to contribute as much as possible to the team’s performance.”

Matt Drakeley, SCCC Director of Talent & Development added: “I’m really pleased for Thomas and would like to congratulate him, his family, and everyone who has supported him on his journey so far.

“This opportunity reflects the consistent performances he has delivered at both Academy and Second XI level. During his time with the Academy, he’s shown the ability to play a role that aligns with the demands across all the cricket he has faced, and he fully deserves this opportunity to demonstrate this at the next level.

“Importantly, this is a great example of the opportunities that exist for young players at Somerset. Thomas is a grounded individual who understands that this is just the start of his journey, and we look forward to seeing how he continues to develop.”
