Thomas and Archie impress for England U19s

Somerset players Thomas Rew and Archie Vaughan both played a prominent part in the First Youth Test Match between England Under 19s and India that ended in a draw at Beckenham on Tuesday.

Rew kept wicket, scored a half century and took seven catches in total while Vaughan claimed six for 84 to end with match figures of 8 for 192.

Batting first, India were all out for 530 in 112.5 overs, during which wicket-keeper Rew conceded no byes and claimed three catches, while Vaughan ended with two for 108 off his 17 overs.

In reply, England were dismissed for 439 of which Rew, batting at number six, contributed a patient 34 off 73 balls which included five 4s, and helped to add 80 runs in 20 overs for the sixth wicket with Ekansh Singh who hit 59.

Batting for a second time, India were bowled out for 248, with off spinner Vaughan claiming six for 84 from his 25 overs, three of which were maidens, and Rew taking three catches.

In their second innings, chasing a total of 339 for victory, England Under 19s ended on 270 for seven, Rew making 50 off 35 deliveries with eight 4s, during which he shared a 62-run fifth wicket stand with Singh.

The Second Youth Test gets underway tomorrow.
