Sophie Heading Down Under for the Winter
Sophie Luff will be heading Down Under soon to spend the winter in Australia.
We caught up with her before she left to find out a little bit more about her trip.
“It’s a great opportunity to get some game time,” she explained. “At this stage of my career game time is invaluable. I’ll be linking up again with Parramatta which is the team that I’ve played for over there for the last couple of years and I’m really excited to get the chance to reconnect with the people who have made my time over there so special in the past.
“It will be good to be able to get outside and get some game time, plus a little bit of vitamin D never hurt anyone!
“We’ve had a really good six-week block during which I’ve been able to dedicate a lot of time to my skills, and that’s been fantastic but ultimately you want to be playing the game because that’s how you learn and see what works.
“This is a great opportunity for me to try a few things, see if they work and bring them into the new season. I’ll be playing against different players, facing new challenges and playing in different conditions. Parramatta have been really good to me, and it’s been great to build a relationship with them. Hopefully, it’s something that more girls will be able to do in the future.
“As a full time professional, it’s important to take ownership of my own career and try to become a better player and a better person. Hopefully, this will help me do that and I can bring that back and hit the ground running. I want to continue the success that I’ve had in my career so far and there will be no better feeling that to do that in a Somerset shirt.”
Sophie will be joined by Somerset teammate Alex Griffiths, who will be making the trip for the first time. How beneficial does Sophie feel that this will be for Alex?
“It will be a great experience for her and hopefully she will enjoy the experience as much as I did the first time I went there. She’s always wanted to go to Australia, and she’s been working on a lot of things in the indoor school, so it will be great for her to be able to put that into game practice without there being too much pressure on her.
“Her main goal is to achieve success for Somerset and playing a few games for Parramatta will help her build towards that.”
