Somerset Sign Charlie Cassell
Somerset County Cricket Club have signed Scotland International Charlie Cassell on a short-term contract.
The fast bowler will arrive at the Cooper Associates County Ground in time for the Metro Bank One Day Cup fixture at Durham and will be available for selection for all matches in the competition until the conclusion of the semi-finals.
The 25-year-old made his Scotland debut last month against Oman and broke the record for the most wickets in an ODI for a debutant when he claimed seven for 21.
After joining the Club, Charlie said: “I can’t wait to get started. To play for a club like Somerset is an opportunity that I’m really relishing. I’m looking forward to helping the club to do well in the competition in a format that I enjoy.”
Somerset Director of Cricket, Andy Hurry added: “With Riley away to The Hundred and Migael Pretorius getting selected for the South African Test squad, which is a fantastic achievement for him, we felt the need to add further depth to our seam bowling attack for this competition.
“Charlie will add an additional dimension to the bowling unit, and his arrival will enable us to manage our bowlers across a demanding playing and traveling schedule, giving them all the best chance to be fresh and showcase their skills.
“We are looking forward to him joining Somerset and contributing to us winning games of cricket.”
Interim Head Coach, Paul Tweddle is looking forward to working with the fast bowler. “He certainly grabbed people’s attention with his debut for Scotland in July,” he said. “After that performance, he should be in a great space to come and hit the ground running.
“He offers us something that can complement the group of the bowlers that we currently have.”
