Overseas Update: January 20th 2025
It’s been another productive week for the Somerset players who are spending the winter overseas.
Let’s go around the globe and find out how the squad has been getting on.
Tom Banton is currently representing MI Emirates in the International League T20 competition.
The Somerset ‘keeper/batter smashed his way to 102 not out from just 55 balls to scoop the Player of the Match award and help his side to a nine wicket win over Sharjah Warriorz with 14 balls to spare.
Tom came to the crease at 20 for one in the third over with his side chasing a winning total of 177. He helped himself to 10 fours and six sixes in a stunning performance.

Tom Abell has been in good form with the bat too.
He made 57 from 39 balls for Sunrisers Eastern Cape as they overcame Durban’s Super Giants by 58 runs in the SA20.

Will Smeed is also playing in the SA20 and made an impressive debut for Pretoria Capitals.
He made 54 from just 34 balls to help his side post 212 for five. Unfortunately, it wasn’t enough to prevent the Capitals from slipping to an eight wicket defeat.

England Captain, Heather Knight reached a landmark moment in her sides Ashes IT20 defeat to Australia.
The Somerset all rounder has now captained her country on 94 occasions in IT20 cricket.

A Player of the Match performances from Somerset’s Katie Jones saw England beat Pakistan by six wickets with 64 balls remaining at the Under 19 World Cup.
Katie claimed three stumpings and took a catch to help limit Pakistan to 66 all out from 18.5 overs.
The ‘keeper/batter then top scored with 20 not out from 16 balls as England eased to their required total.

Archie Vaughan captained the England Under 19 side to victory in the opening ODI against South Africa Under 19s in Cape Town.
The young all rounder made 26 as England won by five wickets with with 189 balls to spare.

Sophie Luff is representing Parramatta in Australia this winter and made a big contribution in her side’s eight wicket victory over Sydney University.
Sophie made 59 not out from 51 balls. Alex Griffiths also featured in the game for Parramatta.
