Niamh Holland Signs Two-Year Somerset Contract
Niamh Holland has become the latest player to sign for Somerset County Cricket Club.
The 19-year-old all-rounder from Langport made her Somerset debut in 2019 and was part of the side that won the T20 Division Two title. She was also a member of the Somerset team that lifted the County T20 title under lights at the Cooper Associates County Ground in 2023.
She made her Western Storm debut in 2020 and went on to feature in a total of 49 matches for the team across the two formats, scoring over 400 runs and taking 12 wickets. The right-hander signed her first professional contract in 2023.
She was drafted by London Spirit in The Hundred in 2023 and 2024 and also represented England at the Under 19 World Cup in 2022.
Her six appearances for England at U19 level have yielded 138 runs at an average of 27.6 with a best of 59.
Niamh is delighted to have signed for her home County. “It feels pretty amazing,” she explained. “I grew up supporting Somerset, so to be able to say that I’m now a professional for the club I followed as a child is quite a feeling.
“I played for Somerset Women throughout the County Age Groups, so to have a professional contract with the Club is a massive privilege. I was really excited when it was announced that Somerset had got Tier 1 status because it’s my hometown club.
“We have a great opportunity to put our stamp on how this team will look and how it can move forward. We’re aligned with the men’s team, and we have a very clear vision for how we want to play the game. Hopefully, we can win some trophies.”
Somerset Women Head Coach, Trevor Griffin, said: “Niamh has the ability to change games with both bat and ball, and she’s passionate about contributing to the team’s success and doing whatever is needed to achieve it. We’re excited to help Niamh continue her development and we look forward to seeing her influence games as she has done for England Under-19s.”
