Niamh commits her future to Somerset

Somerset all rounder Niamh Holland has committed her future to the Club by signing a contract extension until at least the end of the 2029 season.

The 21-year-old all-rounder from Langport made her Somerset debut in 2019 and was part of the side that won the T20 Division Two title. She was also a member of the Somerset team that lifted the County T20 title under lights at the Cooper Associates County Ground in 2023.

Injury restricted Niamh’s early appearances in 2025 but she returned to action to feature in five Metro Bank One Day Cup matches in which she scored 174 runs with a best of 78 at an average of 34.8. Her 11 Vitality Blast appearances yielded 167 runs with a top score of 60. She also captained Somerset on four occasions in the Blast, leading the team to victory over Essex at the Cooper Associates County Ground.

Niamh made her Western Storm debut in 2020 and went on to feature in a total of 49 matches for the team across the two formats, scoring over 400 runs and taking 12 wickets. The right-hander signed her first professional contract in 2023.

She was drafted by London Spirit in The Hundred in 2023 and 2024 and also represented England at the Under 19 World Cup in 2022.

After signing her contract extension, Niamh said: “I’m absolutely buzzing to sign an extension. Obviously, Somerset is my childhood club, so I’m delighted because I couldn’t dream of playing anywhere else. I love Taunton. If you gave me any ground in the world, I’d pick Taunton. I’ve grown up here. I’ve been coming here since I was 10 to watch and things like that, so it’s like dream come true to sign with Somerset again.

“Last season was amazing because it’s something that I didn’t really think was possible when I was growing up because professional cricket wasn’t an option then. It’s a privilege to have this opportunity and it’s important that there are more role models out there for girls so that they can see that there’s a clear pathway for them to get to this position. It’s so exciting to be a part of that. The South West loves women’s cricket and I’m really excited to be on this journey with everyone.”

Somerset Head Coach, Erin Osborne said: “Niamh is an exciting young talent, and we’re really encouraged by what she offers with both bat and ball, as well as the influence she has off the field. She’s recently been elevated into our leadership group, which says a great deal about her character and the respect she has among the squad. I’m looking forward to watching her continue to develop her game here at Somerset.”

Somerset CCC Director of Talent & Women’s Performance, Matt Drakeley added: “Niamh is a really important player for the future of Somerset Women, so we are delighted to have secured her until the end of 2029. She has come through our pathway, has a strong connection to Somerset and the South West, and is someone who we believe has a big role to play now and the ability to become even more influential in the years ahead. She is part of our leadership group for 2026, and we are excited to see both her game and her influence continue to develop.”
