THE OPPOSITION
Captain:Â Georgia Davis
Head Coach:Â Ali Maiden
2025 finish:Â 7th
2025 highest run-scorer:Â Abbey Freeborn (403)
2025 highest wicket-taker: Georgia Davis (23)
Winter moves:Â The Bears have signed all-rounders Mary Taylor from Hampshire, and Alex Stonehouse on loan from Surrey, while spinner Phoebe Brett has signed her first rookie contract. Aussie wicketkeeper-batter Georgia Redmayne, signed for the T20 tournament, will play three 50-over games before the Vitality Blast.
The big question:Â Can Warwickshire translate their impressive 20-over cricket from last season into the longer format? Having signed players who will strengthen the team in all departments and, crucially, bring experience to what is still a largely young squad, the Bears have the potential to challenge in the longer game in 2026.
Player to watch: Phoebe Brett – the 17-year-old left-armer is the latest addition to a spin attack of enviable depth and variety and impressed when her opportunities came along last season. Her control and wicket-taking skills have drawn comparison with Sophie Ecclestone.
Final thought:Â Last season, Warwickshire found themselves playing catch-up too often as the powerplays at the start of each innings went against them. Their skills shone in the T20. Taking wickets up front with the ball and not losing wickets in the powerplay has been a big focus in the pre-season preparation.
TEAM NEWS
Somerset will be without Emma Corney (knee) and Erin Vukusic (back), whilst Heather Knight, Charlie Dean, Dani Gibson and Mollie Robbins are all unavailable.

VIEW FROM THE DRESSING ROOM
Ahead of the match, Somerset Head Coach, Erin Osborne said: “Essex played well on Wednesday and Jodi Grewcock batted exceptionally. Sometimes you just have days like that. Obviously, we were disappointed to lose the game but there were lots of positive contributions, which was really pleasing to see. It was good to see 50s from Anika, Katie and Alex.
“The best thing about the season is that games come thick and fast and you don’t have to wait too long to get back out on the field. We’ll take all the learnings we can from the Essex game and hopefully we can implement those in Saturday’s game against Warwickshire. There are a few areas that we need to clean up, but it’s not like we had a horrific game and there’s still plenty of confidence going into Saturday.
“Warwickshire have got a good team. I imagine they’ll come out nice and aggressive with the bat, and it’ll be on our bowling group to hold their nerve and to be well supported in the field. If we can replicate what we did with the bat on Wednesday, then I’ll be happy.
“You want players going and playing higher honours, so I’m really happy for our three Somerset girls to receive that England call-up, and that’s provided an opportunity for players like Katie Jones to come in, and she batted super well in a really difficult situation.”
