Why they can win the competition: Having been in fine form in both the Rothesay County Championship and the Blast, there is plenty of confidence in the Trent Bridge dressing room and enough depth in the squad to mount a serious challenge for silverware on all fronts.
Player to watch: Jack Haynes, who amassed almost 500 runs in last season’s competition, has shown his quality in both red and white-ball cricket so far this season, averaging 51.63 in the Rothesay County Championship. He will be a key player for the Outlaws.
Young gun: Almost two years on from his sensational 10-wicket debut in the Championship, teenage off-spin sensation Farhan Ahmed has found first-team opportunities limited of late. This competition offers a chance to remind the senior side what they have been missing.
Final thought: Although their senior bowling resources take a hit because of The Hundred, Notts have solid back-up in the likes of Brett Hutton, Rob Lord, James Hayes, Lyndon James and Joe Pocklington. They should at least progress to the knock-out stages.

Somerset are without Lewis Goldsworthy (concussion) so Jake Ball will captain the side.

Ahead of the match, Somerset Head Coach, Jason Kerr said: “From my point of view, it’s incredibly exciting. There’s significant numbers heading off to The Hundred, but with that comes the opportunity for some of our younger players to play First Team cricket in a pressurised environment and to develop the skills and showcase what they can do. We will see some of our younger players represent the Club in terms of the identity and the brand of cricket that we want to play.
“Our aims haven’t changed. We’ll look to win every game that we play, adopt the same philosophy and hopefully the squad can put in the performances that they’re certainly capable of. The squad are very aware of the expectation around Somerset as a club in terms of the way we’ve played cricket over a number of years now and there’s the expectation to win. That certainly won’t change despite losing a few players to The Hundred.”
CLASSIC MATCH
We go back to 1974 for the classic List A encounter between the two teams.
Somerset and Nottinghamshire met at Trent Bridge that summer in a 40-over John Player League match which saw the visitors win by five wickets thanks to a century from Viv Richards.
After winning the toss, Notts Captain, Jack Bond elected to bat first.
Both home openers fell relatively cheaply but Derek Randall made 93 before being run out as the hosts finished on 192 for seven. Graham Burgess and Bob Clapp both claimed two wickets each.
The Somerset reply got off to the worst possible start as the visitors slipped to eight for two but Richards set about the Notts attack and his unbeaten 108 saw Somerset over the line with 2.2 overs to spare.
