Josh added to Metro Bank One Day Cup squad
Somerset County Cricket Club have added Josh Thomas to our Metro Bank One Day Cup squad.
The 18-year-old Academy player, who attends Kings College and plays club cricket for Taunton St Andrews, impressed for the Somerset Second XI in 2021, and made his First XI debut in last season’s One Day Cup going on to play in four matches in the competition.
2023 Metro Bank One Day Cup Head Coach, Paul Tweddle explains why the left-arm spinner and middle order batter has been included in the squad.
“Josh is an extremely talented bowler and batter who will bring a lot to the squad in terms of the number of roles that he can fulfil. He’s also a player of high potential who showed what he can do in last year’s competition and the National Counties games.
“This call up provides him with the opportunity to fight for a place in the team, and if successful to showcase what he can do out on the field. It gives him the chance to understand what it means to be a professional cricketer both on and off the field and there’s no doubt that he will benefit from spending time around the professional squad.
“We know how much it means to the Members and supporters to see young local players representing the Club and we are proud that we are able to keep producing these players who we genuinely feel can impact a game.”
