James “Honoured” by Lions Inclusion
Just when James Rew thought that his incredible year couldn’t get any better, he received word that he had been selected as part of the England Lions training camp that will take place in the UAE in November.
James, who scored over 1000 First Class runs this summer as well as being named Cinch PCA Young Player of the Year, is delighted by the call up.
“I’m very honoured,” he said. “Being a part of any Lions squad is very special. There are some good players in that group so to be going with them is very exciting. Hopefully, this winter I can build on what I’ve achieved this year.
“A camp like this is all about getting as many different opinions as you can. Working with different coaches is always going to be helpful because you can always learn new things that might be helpful to you. I’m definitely looking forward to the experience.”
James is already familiar with a number of the players who have been included in the training group, including Somerset teammate, Shoaib Bashir.
“I’m looking forward to Shoaib being out there with me. I know a few of the other boys from the Under 19s and from County Cricket, but it will be especially good to have Shoaib out there.”
James also explained that he won’t be overdoing things this winter.
“I’m heading off to Cornwall soon to play a bit of golf,” he joked. “I haven’t got much planned to be honest. We’ll just have to see what happens after Christmas. I think there’s another Lions tour planned but we’ll have to see how this one goes first.”
