Jack and Tom named in PCA MVP Team of the Month

Jack Leach and Tom Abell have been named in the the last men’s MVP Team of the Month for 2025 which have been selected based on the PCA’s Most Valuable Player Rankings, powered by OFX.

Using the MVP’s unique algorithms, players have been selected based on their excellent contributions with the bat, ball and in the field across the month of September in the Vitality Blast and the Rothesay County Championship.

Jack claimed 13 wickets in three County Championship matches in September with a best of seven for 69 against Hampshire at the Cooper Associates County Ground.

Tom scored 77 runs in three Vitality Blast matches during the month with a best of 51 against Bears in the quarter-final at Taunton. He also accumulated 248 runs in the County Championship, including 130 against Yorkshire and 118 against Hampshire.

Northamptonshire’s Saif Zaib is named captain after picking up the most MVP points with 99.55 following a contribution of 398 runs and six wickets. He also ended the summer as the leading run-scorer in the County Championship with 1,425 at an average of 64.77.

The bowling line-up consists of some red-balls stars, including Sussex’s Ollie Robinson who got the most bowling points with 67.85. This was mainly down to his 11-wicket haul against Worcestershire in the last game of the season. He is joined by Rothesay County Championship Player of the Year Kyle Abbott and the highest wicket-taker in the competition in Tom Taylor.

The side’s powerful batting is led by the Hampshire duo of Toby Albert and Chris Lynn after yielding 82.98 and 76.44 batting points respectively. Lynn scored 171 from just three games in the Vitality Blast, including 108 not out in the semi-finals against Northants Steelbacks, an innings which incredibly saw him hit five consecutive sixes in one over.

Opening the batting alongside Lynn is former South Africa and Somerset batter Dead Elgar. The left-hander returned to the Essex team for the first time since July and went on to score two centuries in three games in September.

The PCA’s MVP system works by comparing a player’s accomplishments against the expected performance for that game. Runs and wickets achieved at each ground are also considered and compared to the average. This enables players to score or lose MVP points on every ball through CricViz’s extensive historical database, the rankings are a true reflection of performance.
