“I want to be a one-club man” – Tom commits to Somerset
Somerset County Cricket Club is delighted to be able to announce that Tom Abell has again committed his future to the Club by signing a contract extension.
Tom, who played through the Somerset Age Groups before graduating from the Somerset Academy, has agreed terms on a new deal until at least the end of the 2028 season.
The 32-year-old, who played his club cricket for Taunton and attended Taunton School where he was named Young Wisden School Cricketer of the Year in 2012, made his Second XI debut in 2010 with his First Class debut coming against Warwickshire in 2014, a match in which he scored 95.
In 2017, Tom became the first former Somerset Academy player to be appointed Club Captain and in 2019 he led the team to their first trophy for 14 years when Somerset lifted the Royal London One-Day Cup on a memorable day at Lord’s.
Tom has also represented England Lions and MCC together with various T20 franchises around the World and was called into the England squad in 2023 for the ODI and IT20 series against Bangladesh.
In total, Tom has represented Somerset on 278 occasions across all formats, scoring more than 11,700 runs with 24 centuries. He has also claimed 62 wickets for the Club.
He was a key component of Somerset’s Vitality Blast successes in 2023 and 2025.
After signing his contract extension, Tom said: “Obviously, I’m absolutely delighted. The Club is a huge part of me and my family’s lives. Getting to represent Somerset is something I’m very proud of. It’s been great to be a Somerset player over the last few years, and I want to take that on and continue to bring success to the Club.
“I’m a Somerset boy, and a Taunton boy through and through and I’ve only ever wanted to play for Somerset. I want to be a one-club man so it’s obviously a great feeling to sign this extension. I love being part of this team and I want to help the Club to be as successful as possible.”

He has a genuine passion for this Club and everything that it represents. His work ethic is second to none and his dedication to improving every day is something to be admired.
