Craig Commits to Somerset
Somerset allrounder Craig Overton has pledged his future to the Club by signing a new contract extension.
The 31-year-old, whose current deal was due to expire at the end of 2026, has now committed himself to Somerset until at least the end of the 2028 season.
After joining the Somerset Academy as a 16-year-old, Craig went on to make his Somerset debut in April 2012 in a County Championship match against Lancashire.
Prior to joining the Somerset Academy, the allrounder came to the attention of the Club when playing for West Buckland School, North Devon CC and the Devon performance programmes. Craig worked his way through Devon’s County Age group teams as well as lining up for Devon CCC on numerous occasions.
Craig has played 288 matches for Somerset across the three formats scoring over 4800 runs with a best of 138 and taking 637 wickets with a best of seven for 57.
The allrounder was an integral member of the Somerset squads which won the Royal Londin One Day Cup in 2019 and the Vitality Blast in both 2023 and 2025.
Craig made his England debut in the Ashes Test at Adelaide in 2017, making an immediate impact by bowling Australian Captain, Steve Smith. In total he has represented his country in eight Tests claiming 21 wickets with a best of three for 14. He has also featured in seven ODIs in which he has taken five wickets with a best of two for 23. He was awarded an England Pace Bowling Development Contract by the ECB in 2022.

After signing his extension, Craig said: “When I was growing up, I always wanted to play here, so to extend my time with the Club is a great feeling. This place means everything to me and we’re a very close-knit unit. Hopefully, we can do some more special things over the next few years.
“The goal over the next few years is to keep helping Somerset win games of cricket. We’ve got a good squad, and we know that we need to capitalise on that. As one of the more senior players, I feel that it’s important for me to help the younger bowlers who are coming through.
“You never get bored of winning trophies. We’ve been in a few finals over the last few years and to have won three of those is pretty special. There’s obviously still that elusive Championship title, but we’re continually building and that’s the one we all want.”
Somerset Director for Cricket, Andy Hurry added: “We are delighted that Craig has committed his future to the Club because he is a leader both on and off the field for us.
“He is one of the top performers in the country, impacting games not only with the ball, but in the field and with the bat across all formats.
“His approach, work ethic, competitive mindset and will to succeed have taken him to the very top of his profession, and we very much look forward to him continuing to positively influence matches for Somerset.”
