County Championship Preview: Somerset v Glamorgan
THE MATCH
Somerset welcome Glamorgan to the Cooper Associates County Ground this week in Division One of the Rothesay County Championship.
Day one of this fixture is tomorrow (Wednesday September 2nd).

Somerset are currently second in the Division One table with 144 points from 10 matches whilst Glamorgan are fourth with 121 points from the same number of fixtures.
SCHEDULED HOURS OF PLAY:
Morning session: 10:30am to 12:30pm
Afternoon session: 1:10pm to 3:10pm
Evening session: 3:30pm to 5:30pm
IMPORTANT INFORMATION
Gates will open at 9:30am.
Bag searches will be in operation and spectators are reminded that no glass or sharp implements will be permitted within the Cooper Associates County Ground.

All ticket or Membership collections or queries will be managed at the Jack White Gates (St James Street).
The Club Reception Desk is based in the Reception of the Marcus Trescothick Pavilion.
Due to the busy nature of a matchday, our telephone lines will reopen at 10am on Monday September 7th.

The Brian Rose Gates will be open as follows:
- between 9:30am and 10:45am
- between 12.20pm and 1:20pm
- for the duration of the tea interval
- at the close of play
Block 5 of the Somerset Stand will be open to the public.
Scorecards will be available from Reception in the Marcus Trescothick Pavilion. Completed scorecards can be downloaded after the match via the Membership section of this website.
CATERING
Matchday food and drink will be available from Stragglers Coffee House and from additional third-party concessions.
The bar in the Lord Botham Stand will be open on days one and two of this fixture.
Matchday dining is also available in the County Room. We offer breakfast, a lunch and afternoon tea, subject to availability.

Ahead of the match, Somerset Head Coach, Jason Kerr said: “I was really pleased with the performance at Sussex. Obviously, you can’t control the weather, so that was frustrating, but the way we played over the course of the game was outstanding and we showed a huge amount of character. Confidence in the group is really strong, so we’re looking forward to being back at home this week
“Obviously, it’s a quick turnaround and we’re getting to that stage of the season where every point matters, but it’s mainly about the process. You’ve got to play the better cricket over the duration of the game. Obviously, we want as many batting and bowling points as we can get, but we’ve just got to keep controlling as much of the momentum through games as we can.”
CLASSIC MATCH
We go back to 2001 for the classic County Championship match between the two sides at Taunton.
It was a match that Somerset dominated as the home side claimed the win by an innings and 67 runs.
Glamorgan Captain, Steve James won the toss and elected to bat first. Unfortunately for the visitors, only Jimmy Maher (62) made a half century as Andy Caddick (five for 84) and Richard Johnson (four for 33) ripped through the batting line up to dismiss the team from across the Severn for just 169.
Somerset slipped to 58 for two, but centuries from Peter Bowler (164) and Ian Blackwell (102) put Somerset in a commanding position. There were also useful contributions from Mike Burns (81), Keith Dutch (69*) and Mark Lathwell (53) as Somerset amassed 600 for eight before declaring.
Batting for a second time, the visitors fared rather better. Maher (98) again top scored whilst Matt Maynard (80) and James (77) added important runs, but they couldn’t prevent their side being dismissed for 364. Caddick claimed another three wickets as Somerset wrapped up a comprehensive victory.
