Contract extension for Josh Thomas
Somerset all-rounder, Josh Thomas has signed a contract extension.
The 20-year-old, who signed his first professional contract ahead of the 2024 season after working his way through the Somerset Academy, has committed his future to the Club until at least the end of the 2026 campaign.
The left-arm spinner and middle order batter, who plays club cricket for Thornbury, made his First XI debut against Middlesex in the 2022 One-Day Cup.
Since then, he has gone on to represent England at Under 19 level in 2023, featured in 15 List A games for the Club and was part of the Somerset squad that reached the final of last year’s Metro Bank One Day Cup.
After signing his contract extension, Josh said: “I’ve been at Somerset my whole life, so it’s pretty special to sign an extension because I don’t see myself playing anywhere else.
“Everyone wants to play in the First Team, but with the side that we’ve got it’s tough to get in there. I don’t like to look too far ahead, but I want to play as much First XI cricket as I can and score as many runs as possible.”
SCCC Director of Cricket, Andy Hurry added: “We have been impressed with Josh’s progress since he signed his first contract, and we are pleased that we will continue to oversee his journey.
“He has the potential to influence games with both bat and ball, and we have seen this evidenced on a number of occasions for the Second XI again this season.
“We look forward to seeing what 2026 and beyond has in store for Josh.”
