Contract Extension for Archie
Somerset County Cricket Club is pleased to be able to reveal that Archie Vaughan has signed a contract extension.
The 19-year-old former Millfield School pupil signed his first professional contract ahead of the 2025 season and that was due to expire next winter. However, The Club offered Archie an extension until at least the end of the 2028 campaign.
The top order batter and off spinner began playing for Baslow Under 9s at the age of six before moving to Alderley Edge. When he was 10, he joined the Cheshire County setup.
The right-hander, who plays his club cricket for Taunton St Andrews, joined the Somerset Academy in 2020 and made his Second XI debut in 2022.
Archie’s initial First XI opportunity came in the 2024 pre-season Abu Dhabi T20 Counties Super Cup, opening the batting in the third place play off against Yorkshire. His full debut came later that season against Kent in the Metro Bank One Day Cup against Kent at the Cooper Associates County Ground.
To date, Archie has featured in 17 List A matches for the Club, scoring 469 runs at an average of 42.63 with a best of 109 not out against Northants. He has also claimed five List A wickets. In addition, he has represented Somerset in 18 First Class fixtures, amassing 625 runs with a best of 80 and taking 35 wickets with a best of six for 96.

After signing his extension, Archie said: “I’m really excited and it means a lot to know that the Club have confidence in me. I hope I can reward their faith with winning performances on the field. I just want to keep doing what I’m doing, learning and improving all the time and hopefully taking my game to the next level.
“I want to get better in all aspects of my game, and I want to become a genuine all rounder. That will give me the best chance of making an impact in every game.”
Somerset CCC Director of Cricket, Andy Hurry added: “Since joining the Academy, Archie has demonstrated a significant amount of potential, alongside an outstanding attitude and work ethic.
“His hard work and desire to improve every day has been rewarded with First Team opportunities which he has embraced, and he’s demonstrated his ability to positively impact games with both bat and ball in four-day and limited overs cricket.
“We look forward to seeing Archie’s continued development over the next two years and beyond.”
