2024 Club Watch #2
It was a successful Saturday for many of the Somerset players representing their clubs this matchday, on a sunny and dry weekend throughout the West Country and beyond.
Bridgwater CC’s two Somerset quicks Ned Leonard and Alfie Ogborne had a remarkable day against Frocester CC, as they spearheaded their club into a seven-wicket win. Leonard’s spell of 10-0-39-3 and Ogborne’s figures of 8.2-1-38-4 rattled past the opposition batting, limiting them to a meagre 151.
Down at Taunton St. Andrews CC, the Rew and Thomas brothers made life difficult for Bath CC, who eventually won the match by only two wickets. Batting first, James Rew’s 34 off 55 balls and Josh Thomas’ 50 off 65 deliveries steadied the ship for the hosts, before Thomas Rew’s quickfire 39 off 27 balls down the order got the total to 226.
In reply, Bath were cruising along at 123-0 before Josh Thomas ravaged through the batting line-up with his left-arm spin in an outstanding spell of 10-2-27-3 to bring the game close.
