Chloe extends her stay
Somerset County Cricket Club are pleased to be able to announce that Chloe Skelton has signed a two-year contract extension.
The 24-year-old right-arm off spinner’s existing contract was due to expire this winter but she has committed herself to the Club until at least the end of the 2028 season.
Somerset’s List A Player of the Year in 2025, Chloe claimed 15 wickets in her 13 Metro Bank One Day Cup matches with a best of three for 16. She also scored 98 runs at an average of 24.5. She also claimed nine wickets in the Vitality Blast with a best of three for 26.
A product of the Gloucestershire Pathway, Chloe made her county debut in 2018 before joining the Western Storm Academy in 2021. Her Storm debut came later that year, and she signed her first professional contract in the winter of 2022.
In total she represented Western Storm in 50 matches across the two formats claiming 50 wickets and scoring 250 runs. She was named Western Storm Bowler of the Year in 2023.
After signing her contract, Chloe said: “I’m very excited! It’s a really exciting time to be involved in the women’s game, especially with the way that Somerset are looking to go about their business. I’m delighted to have put pen to paper, and I can’t wait to see what the future holds for me at the Club.
“It was a really great feeling to be offered a new contract and it’s nice to think that I’m valued by the Club. I can’t wait to continue to lay down some foundations and look to build my future at Somerset.
“Personally, I’m looking to continue to progress as much as I can. On the field I want to show the Club what I can do and hopefully put us into some winning positions. Off the field I want to help to continue to grow the game and try to inspire the next generation. We have a duty to show any girls within the area that professional cricket is definitely something that they can aspire to.”
Somerset Head Coach, Erin Osborne said: “Chloe has spent the winter in Australia developing her skills with both bat and ball, and that experience has been invaluable for her growth. She is a key member of our spin group and will have a big role to play for us this season. Her influence both on and off the field will be really important for us.”
Somerset CCC Director of Talent & Women’s Performance, Matt Drakeley added: “Chloe has already shown the skill and competitiveness needed to make a strong impact in the women’s county game, and she was one of our leading bowlers during our first season as Somerset Women. She adds a huge amount to the group on and off the field, and after spending the winter in Australia we are excited to see how she continues to grow and contribute over the coming years.”
