Bants named in IG PCA Men’s Team of the Year
The 2024 IG PCA Men’s Team of the Year has been selected by the PCA Most Valuable Player Rankings, to provide the best XI from this season’s domestic men’s cricket according to the statistics.
The team sees Somerset’s Tom Banton included in the side which sees Liam Dawson named as captain for the second year in succession as he finished top of the Overall MVP Rankings on 635 points. The Hampshire all-rounder has also been nominated for the cinch PCA Men’s Player of the Year award.
IG is a leading trading and investing provider and an official partner of England Cricket. This year’s side contains three players from the 2023 team in Dawson and Dan Worrall, as James Vince features for the third year in a row.
Hampshire’s Dawson won both the Vitality County Championship Player of the Year and the PCA Men’s Domestic Overall MVP thanks to 1,280 runs and 71 wickets in 2024.
Other tournament MVP winners have also made the side with Warwickshire all-rounder Ed Barnard taking the Metro Bank One Day Cup Player of the Year for the second consecutive year, as Gloucestershire’s David Payne won the Vitality Blast Player of the Year with his side lifting the trophy at Edgbaston.
The top five batters according to the MVP points were all selected in the IG PCA Men’s Team of the Year, alongside four of the top five bowlers. Somerset’s Jack Leach was unfortunate to miss out due to Dawson’s superior points tally as he took the spin bowling spot. Craig Overton also came close but lost out to Ed Barnard taking the seam-bowling all-rounder position. Gloucestershire’s James Bracey was unlucky not to be included due to Michael Pepper’s incredible run-scoring season.
The cinch PCA Awards takes place at the Troxy on Tuesday 1 October where the best performing players in domestic and international cricket will be recognised.
The team was selected on Tuesday 24 September, ahead of the last round of the Vitality County Championship and all players selected in the 2024 IG PCA Men’s Team of the Year will receive a personalised winner’s medal from Mappin & Webb.
