Glenn Maxwell’s sensational innings for Australia yesterday is quite rightly being talked about as potentially being the greatest innings in World Cup history.
His remarkable double century dragged his side to what at one stage had seemed like an almost impossible victory.
It was only the second time in the history of List A cricket that a player batting at six or lower had scored more than 150 in a successful run chase.
The first time that the feat was achieved was in 2017, and it was done by Roelof van der Merwe for Somerset against Surrey at the Cooper Associates County Ground!
Chasing 291 for victory from their 50 overs, Somerset slipped to 22 for five in the seventh over. However, van der Merwe then helped himself to a stunning 165 not out as his side secured a magnificent four-wicket victory with 37 balls to spare!
His runs came from just 122 balls and included 24 fours and a six!
