Andy to leave Somerset this winter

Somerset batter, Andy Umeed will leave the Club at the end of the season upon the expiration of his current contract.

The 29-year-old former Warwickshire batter and Scotland international joined Somerset in 2022 after working with the South Asian Cricket Academy to work his way back into First Class cricket.

He has represented the Club on 40 occasions across First Class and List A cricket.

Regarding his departure, Andy said: “Taunton is a special place to play cricket, and I’ve enjoyed every moment out there in the middle representing such a historic club.

“The fans have lived up to their reputation and I’d like to thank them for their support during my time here. They’ve made me feel very welcome and proud to be a Somerset player.

“Although I’m disappointed to be leaving so soon, and I would have loved to have contributed more during my time, Somerset will always be the club that gave me a second chance at professional cricket and for that, I’ll forever be grateful.”

Somerset Director of Cricket, Andy Hurry added: “Andy has played a key role in the progressive success of our 50-over side during his time with the Club, and his contributions will be fondly remembered by our Members and supporters.

“We would like to take this opportunity to thank Andy for all his contributions both on and off the field, and for his commitment and professionalism. We wish him well in his endeavours and he will always be welcome at the Cooper Associates County Ground.”
