Amelie Munday signs for Somerset

Somerset County Cricket Club has today announced the signing of Amelie Munday on a one-year rookie contract.

The 22-year-old all-rounder worked her way through the Middlesex Pathway system before making her List A and T20 debuts for Hertfordshire in 2019. Her Middlesex debut came in 2021. The following year she joined the Western Storm Academy and made her first appearance for Devon.

The former University of Exeter student, who is a top order batter who bowls medium-fast pace, has featured in a total of 30 white-ball matches, scoring 390 runs with a best of 71 not out.

After signing for Somerset, Amelie said: “It’s an incredible opportunity. The excitement of being able to pursue a career in the sport I love is amazing, and being able to do that for Somerset, makes it even better.

“With family in Plymouth, alongside playing for Devon and the University of Exeter, the South West has been a huge part of my journey. This has been my home for the last three years, and to be able to continue this journey for Somerset and the region makes me feel very lucky.

“It’s fantastic that women can now access the full professional experience and resources of a club like Somerset, and it’s up to us to make the most of that. As a little girl this wasn’t even an option. I can’t wait to put in the hard yards and make 10-year-old me proud!

“I want to play a full part in pushing Somerset to the top of women’s cricket by developing my skills and earning a place in the First Team.”.

Somerset Women Head Coach, Trevor Griffin said: “Amelie is another player who has come through the Western Storm Pathway. I love the way she wants to score runs, has no fear and looks to take the game on.  Amelie is a great addition to the squad and I’m sure she will be pushing for a starting place.”

Somerset Director of Cricket, Andy Hurry added: “Amelie is another of our players who has links to the region and will take tremendous pride in representing the South West every time she pulls on a Somerset shirt.

“She has demonstrated her ability in the county game over the last few years and we look forward to helping her develop as a batter and a cricketer.”
