Nottinghamshire claimed a six-wicket victory over Somerset at the Tolerance Oval in the Abu Dhabi T20 Super Cup today.

SCORECARD

Both teams started the competition with wins over the South Asian Cricket Academy yesterday and were looking to maintain their 100% record in the tournament.

Nottinghamshire won the toss and elected to bowl.

Nottinghamshire made an early breakthrough when Andy Umeed fell for 0 off the third ball of the innings when he was caught by Tom Moores off the bowling of Dillon Pennington .

Tom Abell then joined Archie Vaughan in the middle but fell for four when he was caught by Ollie Stone to give Lyndon James a wicket at 16 for two after four overs.

Vaughan was then run out by Jack Haynes for 11 off the opening ball of the sixth over, but by the half way stage James Rew and Tom Lammonby had advanced the score to 53.

Rew was stumped for 22 by Moores off the penultimate ball of the 11th over, bowled by Calvin Harrison and three balls later Lammonby was dismissed for 15.

Kasey Aldridge added impetus to the innings against SACA yesterday and looked to do the same again by taking a positive approach.

Josh Thomas fell for five at 67 for six but Aldridge and Craig Overton took the attack to the Nottinghamshire bowlers and brought up three figures in the 19th over.

Overton was dismissed off the penultimate ball of the innings but Aldridge remained unbeaten on 38 from 27 balls as Somerset finished on 113 for seven.

Alfie Ogborne made early inroads when a catch from Shoaib Bashir removed Freddie McCann for 0 in the opening over but Lyndon James and Jack Haynes brought up the Nottinghamshire 50 in the fifth over.

Jake Ball accounted for James (29) courtesy of a catch from Lammonby, and the same combination removed Haynes (29) in the same over to leave Notts on 62 for three after seven.

However, Moores and Sam King took their side to three figures in the 12th over.

King fell to Aldridge for 107 for four but Moores and Matthew Montgomery saw their side over the line in the 14th over.

At the close of play, Somerset Head Coach, Jason Kerr said: “Although results aren’t the most important thing at this time of the year, we’re obviously disappointed not to have secured the win.

“It was the first run out for a few of the guys and I was pleased with how we fought at times. It’s about honing our skills at this point to be ready for the start of the County Championship season and all of our practice has been red ball at this stage, so our white ball skills might be a bit rusty at the moment.

“There were some good things today and there were some frustrating things today and we will definitely take some learnings from this.”

Somerset will now face Essex tomorrow.
