WIT20 tickets on general sale in one week: India at the CACG
Tickets for England v India at the Cooper Associates County Ground go on general sale in one week.
The two nations clash in Taunton on June 2nd in this T20 International, so make sure you don’t miss out on the action.
Ahead of the general sale ticket window, we thought we would whet your appetite by taking a look back on India’s previous visits to the home of Somerset County Cricket Club.
India Women have played at the CACG on 13 previous occasions. Over the next few weeks, we will be looking back at those matches.
2002
2002 saw India Women play Test cricket on these shores for the first time since 1986.
The first Test at Shenley was rained off before the teams arrived at Taunton for the second Test.
India Captain, Anjum Chopra won the toss and elected to field first.
Laura Newton top scored with 98, whilst Mandie Godliman (65) and Clare Conner (48) helped their side post a total of 329. Neetu David was the pick of the India attack, claiming four for 71.
India slipped to 45 for two in reply but 52 from Chopra helped to get her side back on track.
Hemlata Kala and Jhulan Goswami both made 62, but it was Mithali Raj who dominated the innings.
The 19-year-old made a superb 214 before falling lbw to Isha Guha.
India were eventually all out for 467.
Charlotte Edwards made a half century in England’s second innings, but the match ended in a draw.
2006
India Women’s next visit to Somerset’s County Town came in 2006 when they took on England in a Test match.
Raj, now the India Captain, won the toss and elected to bat first.
The skipper contributed 65 whilst Chopra made 98 as the tourists were dismissed for 307 in their first innings. Guha was the pick of the bowlers, finishing with four for 61.
In reply, England were dismissed for just 99 as Goswami claimed five for 33.
Following on, Edwards made 105 in England’s total of 305, but Goswami claimed another five wickets to finish with match figures of 10 for 78.
India reached their target from 29.2 overs to win by five wickets.
2008
The summer of 2008 saw India and England face off in two ODIs. An IT20 was also scheduled but was abandoned without a ball being bowled.
2ND ODI
After a comprehensive eight-wicket win in the opening ODI at Bath, England were in confident mood ahead of the second and third matches in the series which were both held at Taunton.
The second match of the series saw an even more resounding win for England. The margin of victory on this occasion was 10 wickets.
Raj won the toss and elected to bat. The India Captain scored an unbeaten half century, but she received little to no support as her side were dismissed for just 102. Holly Colvin claimed four for 20 and Katherine Brunt took three for 14 from her 10 overs.
Sarah Taylor (75*) and Charlotte Atkins (24*) took England over the line with minimal fuss inside 25 overs.
3RD ODI
England once again came out on top in the rain-affected third ODI.
Charlotte Edwards won the toss and invited India to bat first.
Raj (55 not out) once again showed her class and was well supported by Jaya Sharma (45) as India reached 126 for two from 35.2 overs.
The calculated target for England was 99 from 21 overs, which was reached for the loss of just two wickets with 26 balls to spare.
