Victory for Somerset VI CC over Kent
Somerset Visually Impaired CC took on their Kent counterparts recently, here is a round up of the action from Somerset VI player Kathryn Jelfs-White:
Sunday July 7th saw Somerset Visually Impaired CC face Kent at Taunton Vale.
The forecast was concerning but the weather gods were cricket fans that day and the full game was completed in good sprit and with a tremendous tea, which is of course the most important part of the game!
Captain, Ed Hossell won the toss and elected to field first.
He opened the bowling himself and quickly dismissed the Kent ‘keeper without troubling the scorer. The top order collapsed, including two further ducks, under immense pressure from both Hossells and Cook and the visitors found themselves at 18 for four.
The middle order rebuilt well with St Cyr and the Boulding brothers aptly aiding captain Barton before Contreras, Snelgrove and Crisp finished the innings off at 97 all out after 21 overs.
Some impressive fielding throughout and excellent economy rates with Rory Hossell the pick of the bowlers taking two for seven off his five overs and being peerless even with his poorly pinkie having fractured it the week before!
Somerset’s openers were Mikey Contreras and Alan Mabey. The latter the first victim well bowled for five. His partner would finish up 17 not out but the star batter of the day was Adrian Snelgrove who amassed 30 in short order including three boundaries each worth eight as Total batters score double runs! He was dispatched by Barton with a sharp catch off his own bowling and his opposite number polished off the required total with four boundaries himself in his 23 not out.
The required total of 98 was reached just inside 12 overs in a masterful display.
Enough points were pocketed this weekend to have Somerset sitting pretty at the top of National League Two looking to rebound into the top league next year, we hope!
