Internship Title: Media Internship

Number of placements:  Up to three

Reports to: Head of Digital

Term:  20th March to 1st October 2023

Hours: To attend all Somerset CCC home matchdays

Salary: NMW/NLW

Closing date: 3rd February 2023

The Placement

With over 1 million followers across all social media platforms and a website boasting 10 million hits in the last 2 years, this is a fantastic opportunity to learn and develop key skills within the outstanding environment of a professional cricket team. In particular, the Club is looking to continue expanding its live streaming offering after achieving nearly 8 million views across the 2021 and 2022 seasons and being awarded “YouTube channel of the year” at the prestigious Broadcast Sports Awards.

For this placement we ask you commit to attendance on all home match days, some of which are at weekends and during the evening. In return, this placement will enable you to work with international sporting stars and apply knowledge of media and digital to that environment. Working closely with the Somerset media team, you’ll learn and benefit from their talent and experience and you’ll develop a range of new skills and exceptional real-world examples to pursue a long career in the sports media, journalism, broadcast or digital fields.

As a Somerset Media Intern, you will contribute to the success of the media strategy by:

  • Providing specialist support on matchdays to the in-house live streaming platform. This will include manning a roaming camera during hours of play.
  • Helping develop new ideas and content for SCCC digital channels.
  • Filming content on matchdays for SCCC digital channels.
  • Occasional live stream directing responsibilities
  • Building relationships with key stakeholders within the club, including the playing squad.
  • Providing support to the Media and Community Executive in working with journalists, copywriting and sub-editing.
  • Providing support to the wider commercial team where applicable on match days.

A crucial element of this internship will involve working with you to discover your specific areas of interest in sports journalism, digital and broadcast. The placement will help shape these developments and provide outstanding real-world experience from an award-winning organisation.

We ask that you have some media and digital filming experience with an understanding of current digital trends, ideally within sport. You’re also a strong communicator who prioritises working effectively within a team environment and your attention to detail is exemplary. You thrive on tight deadlines and are comfortable working under pressure.
