T20 Double Victory for Somerset Women
Somerset claimed a double over Cornwall and Wiltshire in Group Four of the County T20 competition at Wadebridge CC tomorrow (Sunday July 28th).
Match One
Somerset beat Cornwall by 49 runs.
Cornwall won the toss and elected to field.
Daisy Jeanes and Laila Moledina shared an opening stand of 22 before the latter fell for eight. Jeanes (14) was dismissed at 47 for two, but Jess Hazell (38) got Somerset’s innings back on track.
Emily Edgecombe made 14, and Nicole Harvey scored 16 whilst a rapid 13 from Emma Philipson ensured that the visitors finished on 147 for six from their 20 overs.
In reply, Burnett (24) and Odgers (31) shared an opening stand of 56, but from that point the visiting bowlers took control and wickets fell at regular intervals as the hosts were restricted to 98 for seven.
Karla Rose was the pick of the bowlers, claiming three for 17 from her four overs.
Match Two
Somerset beat Wiltshire by 60 runs.
Somerset won the toss and elected to bat.
Moledina (10) and Jeanes (29) again gave their side a solid platform, sharing an opening stand of 40 but four wickets from Emily Smith helped to ensure that Somerset were restricted to 98 for seven from their allotted overs.
Three Wiltshire wickets fell in the opening four overs setting the tone for the reply as Somerset dismissed their opponents for just 38 in the 18th over.
Ella Stewart was the pick of the attack with three for two from four overs. There were two wickets apiece for Rose and Tilly Bond.

Ahead of the games, Somerset Pathway Coach & Women and Girls Lead, Kieran Peters said: “Everyone’s excited to be getting back to T20 cricket and there’s still an awful lot to play for in the group. We want to do our very best in our remaining games to make sure that we qualify for a national final, so we’ll be playing the very best cricket that we can.
“We know the style of cricket that we want to be playing and our job now is to go out there and execute that as well as possible with every ball. We’ll be going into the games looking to put in the best performance that we can so that we can give ourselves the opportunity to win.”
