Somerset stars surprise super fan with MEGA prize!

Somerset County Cricket Club in conjunction with Principal Partner, WPA Health Insurance are proud to announce the launch of a new initiative; Somerset Dreams – a project designed to help young, disadvantaged people realise their dreams in cricket.

In the first instalment of the series, we follow the story of Fin McKay.

Having been born with severe learning difficulties, Fin and his family struggled during his childhood to find a place where he was comfortable in an environment where he wasn’t seen as ‘different’ to other people his age.

He then found the Somerset Cricket Foundation’s Super 1s programme.

Super 1’s is an initiative aimed at providing young people with disabilities with greater access to cricket whilst also supporting the growth of disability cricket across Somerset. This inspiring programme, in collaboration with the Lord’s Taverners charity, is designed to empower young individuals, aged 12-25, by giving them the opportunity to engage in regular, competitive cricket sessions.

On the back of his time spent with Super 1s at Somerset, Fin was given a once in a lifetime opportunity to meet some of his heroes at the Cooper Associates County Ground.

Thanks to SCCC Partner, WPA, Fin was surprised by a visit from Tom Abell, Craig Overton and Jack Leach, before joining them for a net session on the pitch at the Cooper Associates County Ground.

Additionally, Fin and his family were provided with an exclusive invitation to the first ever Disability Showcase game at Lord’s, plus tickets to watch an England Test Match at the Kia Oval this summer courtesy of the ECB.

WPA also paid for accommodation and travel.
