Somerset Disabled CC Super 9s win first game of the season

On a glorious sunny day in Ilton, Somerset took on their most local opponents in Dorset.

Somerset won the toss an elected to field first. This game being 9 a side.

With T Best and L Richer opening for Dorset it took the last ball of the third over for Somerset to find a break through. A miss communication between batters gave Charlie May the chance to keep his composure and seal the run out of L Richer.

Four balls into the fourth over it was Charlie May striking again to remove L Marks and then T Best with the first ball of the seventh over and A White with the last ball of the same over sealing his three-wicket haul and a double wicket maiden over.

A change in bowling brought Paul Lewis and Seb Menko. Seb bowling S Whiltshire in the first ball from the 14th over and J Pittaway in the 20th over.

Some tight bowling from Lewis, who in six overs bowled three maidens and only went for nine runs, helped Somerset to continue in a strong position.

Tom Haddell came into the attack then to help take wickets and finish the innings by dismissing the tail end taking the final two wickets needed.

Dorset finishing on 104 all out in 25.4 overs.

It was now the turn of Somerset to chase. Kris Martin and Toby Jones, who after his impressive display against Gloucestershire was promoted to opening with Kris, began well.

The score ticking nicely it took the 14th over before Toby was dismissed by T Best, finishing on 14 from 33 balls.

Wilf Stirzaker, finishing on six from 17, was then removed in the 18th again by T Best and George Fox-Reid in the 20th.

With Somerset close to the final total now, Charlie May came to the middle and with a swift 14 off eight balls helped Somerset finish on 108 for three.

Kris Martin finished on 27 not out, having opened the batting and run the course of the innings.

A great game by all involved played in great spirits and an important first win for the Somerset S9 side.
