Second XI T20: Somerset cruise to victory

A brutal half century from George Thomas helped Somerset to a comprehensive eight-wicket win in this Second XI T20 match against Worcestershire at Ombersley Cricket Club, Droitwich.

Somerset won the toss and elected to bowl first.

Sonny Baker claimed two early wickets to reduce the hosts to 23 for two but Tom Taylor and Ethan Brookes rallied to take the score past 50 before the former was bowled by Ben Green for 23 at 51 for three.

Brookes went on to make 42 from 22 balls and shared a 30-run partnership with Henry Cullen for the fifth wicket but he was caught by Fin Hill off the bowling of George Addy to give the Exeter University spinner his first wicket.

Cullen fell for 25 at 133 for eight as Alfie Ogborne cleaned up the tail to dismiss the hosts for 142 from 18.2 overs.

Ogborne was the pick of the Somerset attack, claiming three for 15 from 3.2 overs whilst there were two wickets each for Baker, Green and Lewis Goldsworthy.

Will Smeed and George Thomas added 40 for the opening wicket before the former fell for 26 from 15 balls. Lewis Goldsworthy (4) was dismissed at 45 for two, but Thomas (69 not out from 44) and Green (43 not out from 25) saw Somerset to their required total from 14.2 overs.
