Second XI T20: Narrow defeat in Worcestershire
Somerset suffered a narrow two-wicket defeat against Worcestershire at Bromsgrove School in the Second XI T20 competition today.
The hosts won the toss and elected to bowl.
Somerset lost Archie Vaughan and Theo Lamey early, slipping to three for two in the second over.
Josh Thomas and Kian Roberts began the task of rebuilding the innings and shared a third wicket stand of 57 before the former fell for 34.
Roberts was dismissed for 32 at 84 for four in the 12th over but the Somerset 100 arrived in the 15th.
Ben Church (34) and Zach Vukusic (31* from 16 deliveries) gave the innings late impetus as the visitors finished on 159 for seven.
Jack Home (two for 24) and Ben Gibbon (two for 32) were the pick of the Worcestershire attack.
Henry Cullen and Kashif Ali (22) got the run chase off to a strong start, sharing an opening stand of 46.
Cullen and Jake Libby then added 38 for the second wicket with the former reaching his half century from 24 balls. He departed two balls later without further addition to his total at 84 for two.
Libby made 24 and Seb Linnett scored 25 until he was bowled by Alfie Ogborne.
Wickets continued to fall as Somerset sensed a possible victory but a rapid 18 from Gibbon eased the Worcestershire nerves as the hosts held on to claim the win in the penultimate over.
